On January 14, 2025, President Biden awarded nearly 400 scientists and engineers the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest U.S. government honor for early-career researchers. Among the honorees is Professor Agostino Capponi from Columbia University's Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Established in 1996, PECASE recognizes individuals demonstrating exceptional potential for leadership in science and engineering. The 2025 awardees are affiliated with 14 federal agencies, including the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Interior, Transportation, Veterans Affairs, the Environmental Protection Agency, the intelligence community, NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the Smithsonian Institution.
