Matias Villagra is a Ph.D. student in Operations Research at Columbia University, co-advised by Dan Bienstock and Yuri Faenza. He works on large-scale and computationally challenging mixedinteger nonlinear programs, with a focus on the fundamental AC Optimal Power Flow problem and its applications in operations, planning, and pricing. He is also interested in the role of symmetry in optimization, particularly in integer programming, with the aim of both understanding its impact on solvers and designing symmetry-aware algorithms.
