MS&E's Take 1st Prize for the Third Year in a Row!  
The IEOR Career Management Team is excited to announce the winners of our Summer 2018 Internship Video Contest!

1st prize goes to Management Science & Engineering student Soundarya Balasubramani, who interned at Salesforce.

 

2nd prize goes to Operations Research student Chenchen Huang, who interned at ClimateAI.

1st prize winner of Summer 2016 went to Management Science & Engineering student Georgios Emmanouil, who interned at Procter & Gamble.

 

We look forward to reviewing videos this year! Below are instructions for students who are interested in documenting their Summer 2019 internship experience.

All IEOR MS students are invited to create and submit a video—2 to 5 minutes long—about their internship experience and its relevance to their degree program. 

Your video may be featured on our website for new and prospective students to view, so we encourage you to be creative and informative.

The IEOR Department will award cash prizes for the 1st and 2nd prize videos that best demonstrate and illustrate the student’s day-to-day role, industry knowledge, and coursework application.

Required Questions: You must answer 2 of the following questions in your video:

  • How does your coursework and/or overall degree program relate to your internship, division or overall firm’s mission?
  • What did you learn from this internship?
  • What did your day to day work consist of and how does it relate to your field of study?

Suggested questions:

  • Why did you choose to intern at this company? 
  • What is the company’s mission?
  • What were your goals and expectations when you started?
  • What kind of training or mentoring did you receive?
  • What were your top priorities?
  • What was your greatest contribution to your team?
  • Which kind of employees and departments did you work with and in what capacity?
  • How would you describe the company culture?
  • What did you find most surprising or you were least prepared for?
  • What other challenges did you have to overcome?
  • What industry insights did you acquire?
  • What new skills did you learn since starting your internship?
  • Which skills were vital to succeeding in your role?
  • What knowledge from your coursework was useful and how was it applied? 
  • What did you enjoy about your experience?
  • Where did you go for lunch?
  • How did your internship affect your academic and career goals?
  • What advice would you give to students who have not yet done an internship?

Prizes:

  • First: $500
  • Second: $300

An additional number of students will also be selected to receive honorable mention(s) with smaller prizes
