Financial Engineering Seminar Attendance & Learning Journals

Each semester the IEOR Department hosts the Financial Engineering Practitioners Seminar series. You are required to attend and submit a one-page learning journal for all Financial Engineering Practitioners Seminars. THIS IS A PROGRAM REQUIREMENT.

Requirements:

  • Attend all of the FE Seminars hosted during the Fall and Spring terms. Attendance will be taken at each seminar.
  • You are permitted one excused absence per term.
  • Submit a learning journal for each seminar attended.

A learning journal is an intellectual exercise in reflectively describing and explaining your own experiences and observations in terms of your overall perspective. This type of assignment is meant to stimulate your critical thinking and provide an outlet for you to articulate your thoughts, insights and knowledge. Learning journals are a way of enhancing your learning, clarifying your thoughts and structuring your ideas.

Learning journal format requirements:

  • Typed, Times New Roman font
  • Font size: 12
  • Margins: 1"
  • 1 page per seminar

The deadline to submit the learning journals for the class starting Fall 2016:

Fall 2016 term deadline: Friday, December 16, 2016

Spring 2017 term deadline: Friday, May 12, 2017

If you plan to finish the Program by December 2017, this exercise is optional during the Fall 2017 term. However, the Department strongly encourages you to attend the seminars. You are required to attend and submit learning journals for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 terms.
