Katya Scheinberg received her Ph.D. from the IEOR department at Columbia University. Professor Goldfarb was her thesis advisor. Now she is a Research Staff Member at the Mathematical Sciences department at T.J. Watson Research Center, IBM where she has been since 1997. Her research interests include theoretical and implementational issues of derivative free optimization (she released an open source software called DFO and is currently working on a book "Introduction to Derivative Free Optimization"), numerical stability and efficient algorithms for linear algebra in interior points methods, active set methods, parametric optimization, quadratic programming, conic linear optimization, and, various applications of optimization in machine learning (she is also the author of an open source package SVM-QP).
