Ciamac Moallemi's research is in the area of optimization and control of large-scale stochastic systems. He is particularly interested in problems which require approximate methods of solution, decentralized algorithms or distributed control policies, and learning from historical data or online system trajectories. Relevant application areas include service and communications networks, e-commerce, data-mining, and financial engineering. Prior to his doctoral studies at Stanford University, he developed quantitative methods in a number of entrepreneurial ventures, as a founder of a computer security software startup, in an early stage drug discovery startup, and as a partner of a fixed-income arbitrage hedge fund. He was a Marshall Scholar at the University of Cambridge. He teaches the core MBA class on Decision Models, and the elective MBA class on Security Pricing.
